The Strada del Sole takes you to Falzes, in the high Val Pusteria. Schöneck welcomes gourmet visitors with family warmth, whether you choose to dine on the typical Bauernstube, in the wooden veranda, on the idyllic terrace, or whether you prefer to enjoy the best of haute cuisine on a leather chair in front of the chattering open fire. Here the chef Karl Baumgartner moves with masterly ease among the traditional regional dishes and the forays into Mediterranean flavours. His golden rule is to use ingredients sourced locally unearthed by small producers. Dishes that must be tried include Alpine cheese fondue ravioli with creamed red turnips and melted butter or the open one with nettles filled with cream of chanterelles and free-range egg, without forgetting the chestnut soup or roast venison loin. The siblings Mary and Siegfried look after relations with guests and the splendid wine cellar with over 500 labels, kept among river stones and old wood.
