Zum Löwen

Anna, Alois and Elisabeth Matscher

Between Bolzano and Merano, the Zum Löwen restaurant is an absolute “must” to enjoy feminine cuisine in a state of grace and the rustic-chic atmosphere of the renovated ancient farmhouse in wood and stone. Just the pleasure for “living” shown by Anna Matscher in her dynamic long day’s work makes this journey an absorbing experience: we can see her tending her vegetable garden, selecting the finest cuts of meat in the butcher’s smokehouse or in conversation with the small producers. And the dishes she prepares bring harmony between the Tyrol, the Mediterranean and the exotic with authentic flavours and a strong innovative drive: Saddle of venison, Cornelian cherries, cocoa beans and ricotta dumplings; pasta bundles stuffed with grey cheese fondue, chestnuts, pears and pomegranate, ending with the Torta with beluga lentils, spinach, ricotta di bufala and curry mousse. Her husband Alois and daughter Elisabeth skilfully and stylishly govern the dining hall and wine cellar, with over three hundred Italian, German and French labels.
