Can Mediterranean and Alpine cuisine create a perfect match? The answer lies in the hands and palate of Gerhard Wieser who has achieved this miracle for over twenty years in his kitchen at the Hotel Castel di Tirolo, in a traditional village not far from Merano, at the entrance to Val Passiria. A refined cuisine, with Central European inspiration, is constantly enlivened by the warmth of the South. But for some years now, his dishes have entertained a ménage à trois, introducing an international spirit, which has created some extraordinary remakes of local classics with hints from overseas, embellished with generous Mediterranean brush strokes.
The signature style of the Trenkerstube restaurant does not allow itself to be pigeonholed by trends or movements: it undergoes continual renewal from year to year, adding a new chapter to that gourmand’s treatise that Gerhard Wieser has been writing for over two decades; his prolific production features both burners and bookshops, as he is also co-author of a popular series of cookbooks.
