On the edge of the Val Pusteria, among the mountainsides of the Dolomites, tourists and gourmets are well aware of the rich tastes of Schöneck and its thirty years of experience, drawing on innovation as a valuable ploy to bring out the best of local culture. This miracle is due to the work of Karl Baumgartner, a self-taught chef with a visionary and tenacious temperament, who looks carefully at his own region but without refusing to open up to the world.
The ingredients that come in the kitchen every day from zero-km farmers and breeders are treated according to basic techniques with a careful and meticulous eye. In the dining room, the synergy of two professionals from the family assists the chef’s painstaking work: his wife Mary, is the friendly and attentive maître while his brother Sigfried looks after the secrets of a well-stocked wine cellar. Anyone passing through these parts will feel the call of hospitality and good taste and should enjoy the privilege of choosing whether to sit in the traditional South Tyrol Bauernstube, under the bright wooden veranda or, in summer, on the beautiful outdoor terrace.
