There’s no need to have a boat to feel cradled by the waters of Lake Mergozzo. Suspended over the crystal-clear waters like a dwelling on stilts, the Piccolo Lago restaurant has been here in the province of Verbania since 1974, a magical mid-air setting, surrounded by mountains and unspoilt nature. The glass, steel and wood structure fits nicely into the landscape and offers an exciting all-round view. In the open kitchen, chef Marco Sacco conducts his experiments and studies with cutting-edge technology as he tastes the raw materials that come to him.
“The freshwater chef” is the name he is known by, as he skilfully succeeds in enhancing the microcosm that surrounds him, above all the abundant fish. His past is supported by an innate passion for cooking and a wealth of international experience that help to make his dishes unique. “I like to have fun and allowing others to do the same is part of my work, a way of expressing myself; my restaurant becomes an experience I share with my guests. It becomes a musical play where I compose the score. Look, smell, taste and listen…we’re on stage.”
