Lio Pellegrini is more than just a restaurant: it is a memory and tribute to Giuliano’s father, a romantic symbol par excellence in French-bistro style, populated by thousands of trinkets and curiosities; it is a hotbed of genius and creativity just a stone’s throw from the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea and the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo Alta. Along with his mother Nadia and his wife Silvia, Giuliano Pellegrini has been offering since 1984 a tradition of Mediterranean flavours that range from meat to fish, including memories of his native Tuscany and a few simple insights, while maintaining a solid equilibrium in terms of taste. Giuliano defines himself as overly careful, a characteristic that becomes a culinary style consisting of research, experimentation and new flavour combinations. The cradle of this spontaneous, family-based identity is a picturesque location, set in a sacristy from the seventeenth century, adorned with different, yet skilfully integrated furniture styles. The outdoor garden with its veranda is a real oasis of peace in the warm season, while its one extremely cosy bedroom immerses guests in absolute silence broken only by the chirping of birds.
