Walking through the streets of Mantua is like breathing the air of the sixteenth century, rubbing shoulders with the powerful Gonzaga family, ladies and knights who seem to have never abandoned this picturesque city. In an old 16th century noble residence, which houses Il Cigno Trattoria dei Martini, the atmosphere seems similarly unchanged but simply adapted to the present day, while maintaining a courtly sophistication of charm and warm hospitality. This oxymoron style that is slightly princely and slightly popular is also found in the restaurant cuisine, which reflects the contradictory essence of Mantuan gastronomy: urban and rural, rich and accessible. Tano, the amiable owner with a bow tie, and his wife Alessandra, define their culinary art as “orthodox”: land and water mixed in a distillate of Virgilian tradition appreciated by the public ever since its opening in the late Sixties. 
In summer, the carousel of flavours is served in the outdoor garden adorned with a fifteenth-century well. Welcome to a haven of fine flavours that never ceases to enchant its guests with its satisfying purity and solid tastes.
